Featured Hatchback Subaru Test Drives — 09 August 2012
First Test Drive of the brand new 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek on the island of Oahu, Hawaii by Roadfly host Charlie Romero. Join Charlie as he tests this rugged new crossover utility vehicle entry from Subaru on Kualoa Ranch which is the site where the movie Jurassic Park was filmed. I LOVE the GTI! Great car, but we’re comparing apples to oranges here. A 2013 GTI 4DR w/ DSG will run you about $28,500, and has front wheel drive. To get AWD, you have to jump up to the R model, which is only available with a manual (which I prefer), but costs over $32G. I drove the Impreza, and it’s actually a pretty fun car to toss around. It’s no GTI, mind you, but it’s still a blast, and it will drive right past the GTI’s that are stuck in the snow up here in Minnesota. I’d like to have one of each, the GTI for true performance (Or better yet, the Subaru BRZ), and one of these XV’s for having a blast off-road or in the snow. Plus, the added feature of Subaru’s reliability. I’ve owned 3 VW’s and can’t say that they’ve been very reliable. I own a ’10 Legacy Limited, and we have 4 other Subie’s in the family. They’ll easily run 250K miles no problem, and they advertise them in Japan to go 500K miles. I believe them…

I said it once and I’ll say it again, who ever put that CVT in that car with that impotent engine should be punished! I took it for a long test drive and I hated every second of it. It was too slow, the steering was way too light especially on the highway at higher speed, overtaking included 30 secs of planning and even if you downahift manually engine would not redline, just got stuck there at 4500 and the CVT took over

I really want one of these, wish it had a bit more power and I hope it comes with more Audio options than the Impreza.
